Description

Forged from the mighty volcanic activity that shapes Iceland’s rugged landscape, Askja No4 is made of Basalt. Unlike the typically porous basalt formed by rapidly cooling lava that traps gas bubbles, this piece is notably dense and non-porous, suggesting it may have cooled more slowly or under pressure, allowing gases to escape and resulting in a compact, smooth surface. Its deep black hue, a result of the iron and magnesium-rich minerals, gives it a striking, steely appearance. Askja No4’s exceptional hardness and polished finish showcase the diverse and powerful geological processes that can vary even within a single type of rock.
